Nature vs. Adventure: Departures from the Status Quo in Public Play Environments

Nature vs. Adventure: Departures from the Status Quo in Public Play Environments

Laurel Raines presented with Tom Leader of Tom Leader Studio and Rebeccca Colbert of MIG at the ASLA national conference in San Diego.  Communities increasingly seek creative opportunities for children and families to engage in meaningful play. As the status quo for meaningful play environments shifts, differing approaches have emerged – some emphasizing the use of natural elements, others iconic design features. This session explores ways in which these approaches support healthy human development, and compares strengths and intersections between natural vs. destination play settings.
