Platte Street Plaza

Denver, Colorado

Pedestrian amenities for a downtown bridge landing.

  • Seating zones were created along the perimeter, trees for private café seating, and lush planters also serving as seating areas.

  • The central area accommodates circulation for bicycles and pedestrians, with detailed paving to slow passage through this transition zone.

Dig Studio redesigned the plaza at the landing of Denver’s iconic Millennium Bridge, a major bicycle and pedestrian thoroughfare to the Lower Downtown precinct. The revitalized space incorporates a pedestrian plaza with cafe seating, new landscape planting elements, shade structures, public art, and upgraded paving materials. The new layout plan delineates distinct pedestrian and bicycle zones from pedestrian traffic through the plaza and provides planted seating areas along the sides to enhance safety and movement through the site. An adjacent pedestrian crosswalk was raised, expanded, and paved to improve pedestrian safety by extending the plaza zone and changing the surface to slow traffic.
